All The Shows Getting Cancelled This Year (And The Ones That Are Getting Renewed)

Will there be another season of our favorite TV show? We ask ourselves that question every spring, and many of us wait impatiently to know the answer. When we watch a show, we often get attached to it, only for it to be canceled by the network, even if it's sometimes doing well! Sometimes, they can be picked up by another network, and other times, they're just gone for good. We have compiled a list of TV shows that have either been renewed, canceled, and those whose futures are still unknown. Many of our favorite ones managed to be renewed for another season!

Criminal Minds (ENDING)

On the 10th of January this year, Criminal Minds was renewed for its fifteenth and final season. It will have ten episodes, and its release date has not yet been announced. It will reportedly have a midseason debut, so it's likely not to arrive until January, February, or even later.

Lethal Weapon (CANCELED)

Last year, Lethal Weapon went through some controversy as one of its lead actors was fired. Everyone believes that this was the end for the series until Crawford was replaced by Seann William Scott. The show was back for a third season, but Damon Wayans then threatened to quit as he couldn't work 16-hour days with his Diabetes. The show was finally canceled after three seasons. 

Hawaii Five-O (RENEWED)

Hawaii Five-O has officially returned for the tenth season. In other great news for the show, Alex O'Loughlin has agreed to continue playing the role of Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett. The show has already premiered on the 27th of September this year.

Modern Family (ENDING)

Comedy sitcom Modern Family has been renewed for an eleventh season, and sadly, this will be the final one. It has premiered on the 25th of September. According to the producers, this season will feature milestone moments that fans won't want to miss.

Young Sheldon (RENEWED)

The Big Bang Theory's successful spinoff series Young Sheldon has been renewed for a third AND fourth season by CBS. In its second season, the show averaged over 11 million weekly viewers, making it the third highest-rated show on the network. Season three begins airing on the 26th of September.

Arrow (ENDING)

Hit show Arrow was renewed for an eighth season by the CW. In March this year, it was reported that this would be the show's final season. In addition, it will only have ten episodes. The eighth season is premiering on the 15th of October.

The Big Bang Theory (ENDING)

The Big Bang Theory will sadly not go on for more than twelve seasons. It has been speculated that the reason for this is that Jim Parsons requested to quit to pursue other things. The series would be very different without his character, so the series' twelfth season will be its final one. The finale is set to air on the 16th of May, 2019.

This Is Us (RENEWED)

This Is Us is one of the most popular series of NBC, with many people talking about it. So, unsurprisingly, the series was renewed by the network. It was renewed for an additional three seasons: the fourth, fifth, and sixth. Season four will begin airing on the 24th of September.

Arrested Development (TBD)

The second half of Arrested Development's fifth season came out in spring on Netflix, and the reviews haven't been great.  A sixth season has yet to be announced, but at this point, it doesn't feel like it's going to happen.

Blue Bloods (RENEWED)

Blue Bloods was a hit the second they cast Tom Selleck as the lead, but people continued watching because of the drama. This police drama has nine seasons already, and it has been announced that it will be returning for a tenth! The new season will start airing on the 23rd of September, and this fall, Blue Bloods will air its 200th episode.

Suits (ENDING)

After Meghan Markle quit to focus on royal duties, Suits decided that it was time to bring the show to an end. The final ninth season premiered on the 17th of July on the USA network. The production for the ten-episode season will begin later in 2019. 

The Conners (RENEWED)

The new Roseanne show minus Roseanne has quickly become the highest watched comedy of 2018-2019, with a whopping 9.5 million viewers each week. It has been renewed for a second season, and the first episode aired on the 24th of September on ABC. 

Last Man Standing (RENEWED)

The good news is that Last Man Standing has been renewed and will be returning for the eighth season, but the bad news is that it will be some time until it releases. Fox reportedly pulled the show from its lineup, so it will instead premiere in 2020.

Mr. Robot (ENDING)

Mr. Robot has come to an end as the USA network has announced that the fourth season will be its last. It has already begun, with the first episode premiering on the 17th of July, 2019. The final season will have 12 episodes.

All NCIS (RENEWED)

The legendary NCIS was quickly renewed for a seventeenth season, and this is no surprise, as it averages a whopping 16 million viewers per episode. The new season has begun, with the first episode premiering on the 30th of September. Also, NCIS: Los Angeles has been renewed for an eleventh season, and it will begin on the 29th of September. Finally, NCIS: New Orleans has returned for a sixth season, and it began on the 24th of September.

Whiskey Cavalier (CANCELED)

Whiskey Cavalier, the action series starring Scott Foley and Lauren Cohen, didn't last on the air for very long. Unfortunately, due to average ratings, it is being canceled. It was a tough choice for the network, but ultimately, it decided that it was a "no."

The Good Doctor (RENEWED)

The Good Doctor, a show about a talented young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, is ABC's highest-rated show. It is being renewed for a third season, which was an obvious choice as the show averages 11.2 million viewers every week. The third season premiered on the 23rd of September on ABC.

Supernatural (ENDING)

Supernatural is coming to an end, with the 15th season being its last. This was announced by Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins in a video message earlier this year. Fun fact - Supernatural is the last standing TV show from when the CW was the WB! The final season will begin on the 10th of October.

Ransom (CANCELED)

The third season of Ransom, a show which centers on crisis and hostage negotiation started in February, but the show simply wasn't meant to be. It was announced on Twitter that the show was being canceled, even though the cast loved it while it lasted. 

One Day At A Time (RENEWED)

One Day at a time is a reboot of the famous Norman Lear sitcom from the 70s. During its first three seasons on Netflix, the show was critically acclaimed. However, it was canceled by Netflix on the 14th of March. The 27th of June, cable network POP announced that it had been picked up the show and that they will be renewing it. No exact date is yet to be announced,  but it will premiere sometime in 2020.

The Bachelor (RENEWED)

Reality TV series The Bachelor has been around for seventeen years, and it shows no signs of stopping after it was renewed for a twenty-fourth season. However, we feel like it's going to be difficult to follow Colton's fence-jumping season. We will have to wait until 2020 for the season to premiere.

Dancing With The Stars (RENEWED)

Dancing With The Stars, which had an average of 7 million viewers per episode in its twenty-seventh season, took a pause this spring to make way for American Idol, but it's officially back! The twenty-eighth season began on the 16th of September on ABC. 

American Idol (RENEWED)

Although the seventeenth season of American Idol received mixed reviews, it will be back for the eighteenth season! This will be its third season on ABC, and we don't see signs of it stopping anytime soon. The newest season will not air until January 2020.

Grey’s Anatomy (RENEWED)

Although most of the original cast is gone, it isn't stopping Grey's Anatomy as it was renewed for a seventeenth season. Although many fans wanted it to end, Pompeo said:  "when the numbers start to drop and people aren't watching the same, people aren't as passionate about it..it's time to call it." The newest season began on the 26th of September.

The Walking Dead (RENEWED)

Somehow, The Walking Dead keeps getting renewed season after season. The zombie show's tenth season will premiere on the 6th of October on AMC. Also, AMC is currently developing multiple "Walking Dead" films, which will feature Andrew Lincoln, who quit the show in season nine.

Will And Grace (ENDING)

The iconic Will and Grace is one of the most popular shows of the late 90s, but it ended in 2006. Ten years later, it was renewed with the same cast. The new Will and Grace was renewed for a second and third season, but the third will be its last, as you can only tell a story for so long. It will premiere in 2020.

The Crown (RENEWED)

The hit royal show The Crown will be returning on Netflix for its third season. It will debut on the 17th of November, so prepare for some royal drama! This series will feature Gillian Anderson playing the role of Margaret Thatcher, and we can't wait for that.

Stranger Things (TBD)

The third season of Stranger Things, released on the 4th of July, received rave reviews. The show is so popular that we bet Netflix will bring it back for a fourth season. However, at the moment, nothing has been decided or announced yet.

How To Get Away With Murder (ENDING)

This drama series follows a lawyer and some of her law students, and as the title indicates, they help people get away with murder. The show is back, with its first episode having premiered on the 25th of September 25th. However, this will be the last season.

Empire (ENDING)

After the insane Jussie Smollett drama, which saw him written off the last few episodes of season 5, network execs at FOX decided to pull the plug after the sixth season. The final season has begun, with the first episode premiering on the 24th of September.

MacGyver (RENEWED)

Although MacGyver did not have the best ratings, it has been renewed for a fourth season. However, many things have changed behind the scenes, such as the addition of Desiree "Desi" Nguyen as a character, replacing George Eads. There is no exact release date yet, but CBS announced that it won't be before 2020.

The Handmaid's Tale (RENEWED)

Dystopian drama The Handmaid's Tale is one of Hulu's most popular original shows, so it was a pretty obvious choice to renew it for a fourth season. There is no exact release date yet, but it will debut in 2020. 

A Million Little Things (RENEWED)

A Million Little Things did well enough in its first season to be renewed for a second one. Season two was released on the 26th of September, with a total of nineteen episodes, two more than in the previous season.

The Kids Are Alright (CANCELED)

ABC has canceled "The Kids Are Alright" after only one season, and this was announced by series creator Tim Doyle on Twitter.  “‘The Kids Are Alright’ is dead. I just got the call. Goodbye,” he wrote. The president defended his choice by claiming that there wasn't a strong enough fanbase to keep the show alive.

Madam Secretary (RENEWED)

Madam Secretary will be back for a sixth season, premiering on the 6th of October. After the season 5 finale where McCord announced her run for the oval office, this season will likely show Elizabeth's experiences as a candidate in the presidential election.

Fear The Walking Dead (RENEWED)

On the 2nd of June, the fifth season of Fear The Walking Dead began. In addition, at the San Diego Comic-Con, it was also announced that it would be returning for a sixth season, though it won't be premiering until April 2020.

Big Little Lies (RENEWED)

The second season of Big Little Lies premiered on the 9th of June, and it was eventful, to say the least. At the moment, it is unsure whether it will be renewed for a third season. HBO said that it would renew the show only if the entire cast returns, which is reasonable.

Ozark (RENEWED)

Ozark is one of Netflix's popular shows, so it's no surprise that it's been renewed for a third season, which will consist of ten episodes. It is currently under production, having begun in May 2019, so it's not likely to return before early 2020. 

Shark Tank (RENEWED)

Although viewership for the four-time Emmy-winning Shark Tank has gone down by ten percent in season ten, the reality series has still been renewed for an eleventh season, which has aired on the 29th of September, 2019.  Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, and Kevin O'Leary, the "original sharks," will appear once again.

The Good Place (ENDING)

The offbeat comedy series has done really well, so NBC decided to renew it for a fourth season. Unfortunately, it will be the last. The fourth season has been released on the 26th of September, 2019, and it is available on Netflix.
